Joy and Revolution's Synthophonic Lush is grabbing publicity with Singapore Sling Tapes 45 minute cassette release

In April 2013 Singapore Sling tapes released a 45 minute cassette, "Synthophonic Lush" by Joy and Revolution.  In the following months many have praised the album one of the best Joy and Revolution releases, and I have to agree. Just take a listen for yourself and enjoy the dreamland you drift into while the melodies fill the space around you.

"And indeed Joy and Revolution has employed a technical prowess to whatever degree it needed to in order to achieve this mini-pop, micro-twee miracle of a tape… But still, you could have made it, and you didn’t. The point is that the melodies, lyrics and song structures (upon which this album hinge all but entirely) are all forehead-slappingly simple, and therein of course lies their true genius. From a shy and wispy girl who sounds like she could give about one-and-a-half damns come questions of morals and self-worth and love-lost that only she can answer, yet refuses to (although we adore hearing all about them), while repetitive verses of synth and electro-beats swing or sway or stomp or slink or saunter gingerly beneath, most often between a grand total of two chords each. And the end result is magnificently intoxicating: Dreamy, psychedelic, coma-inducing… As much for a night drive as it is for falling asleep to, or maybe doing nothing at all. Joy and Revolution put in an effort here that works really hard at sounding like it’s lazy."

"Synthophonic Lush is the group's latest offering and first release with Russian tape label Singapore Sling. The tape's 45 minutes chart a dimly lit, woozy path through cheap keyboards and thrift store drum machines. Chords and melodies shift in and out of focus as though the tape is physically warped or running off track, best seen on opening tracks "Is it Me" and "We got Sad." At times, Joy and Revolution dial it back for near-unconscious revelry and lethargic synth pop. Elsewhere, the scene brightens up for a dreary drift of bubbly percussion loops and danceable (read: head-nodding) flair. It's a refreshing suite of dark, summer-ready pop."

"It is you. It IS your fault. I can't stop listening to your damned tape. It's so whispy and carefree and wonderful. And happy and also sad. I would like to drive to it, maybe through some futuristic tunnel at night, off in some distant future. When the sun has fizzled its way out and life is powered a different way. The energy of our dreams, harnessed and converted into something useful outside of ourselves, illuminating the neon lights that line the tunnels of our aimless transit. And at that time, we'll still have a need for things like love. And we'll still be hopelessly hopeful for things we don't understand. We'll wander our ways through parks of amusement. And sighs of disappointment will still be around. Things like regret and heartbreak. And listening to your tape is like remembering those things...that haven't happened yet. Synthophonic Lush is where you can find this and more by the Atlanta-based duo, out on the amazing Singapore Sling."

Nature in Little Five Points Atlanta

One night we decided to take a walk, a very normal thing (we probably take around an average of three walks daily) and I brought my lame digital camera, an unusual thing to bring.
The reason I brought the camera was because earlier on that same day while walking, I noticed all the strange and beautiful flowers growing in neighbors yards.
So that night we walked around snapping pictures of everything, some with flash, some without flash, and they do not look have bad. Of course they are much more exquisite in person, but these capture some of the beauty lingering through the neighborhoods of Atlanta.

Many more to come...

Synthophonic Lush

"There are synthesizers on Synthophonic Lush, and voices - instruments of music making that require a certain skill set employable towards a common goal as a band to create a unique and beautiful work of art. And indeed Joy and Revolution has employed a technical prowess to whatever degree it needed in order to achieve this mini-pop, micro-twee miracle of a tape."
